i pity the foo….

i didn’t really care much about the helena guergis affair. i mean i didn’t like her attitude towards her fellow canadians at a p.e.i. airport but she wasn’t really on my radar.  however, as weeks passed and new allegations came up…i started to wonder…isn’t she just a check-in luggage the government should get rid of? or at least claim lost? (and knowing air canada…lost luggage wouldn’t be surprising) having her in cabinet would probably be kryptonite…so just get rid of her. but i was very surprised that they removed her from caucus on friday. i mean this is caucus and not just the cabinet. she now sits as an independent…well, at least she would be if she ever decides to show up to question period.

she must have royally screwed up…i mean the rcmp were called in.  it was particularly surprising for me because the day before this all happened, that infamous dimitri soudas defended guergis and her place in cabinet.  soudas said she did an exceptional job as the minister for the status of women but it made me think…what did she do there?  ever since throwing a bitch fit at an airport, she has since just sat at committee meetings…giving one word answers…now is that really a good minister? even during question period she was reluctant to answer questions.

this incident, however, speaks to a bigger problem that plagues this government that promotes accountability and transparency in government.  this was their 2006 election platform which helped them form a minority government after the famous liberal sponsorship scandal broke. they will not say anything about the nature of scandal concerning guergis because it has now passed on to the rcmp…but they really could have given us the nature of her disposal from the caucus. telling the public that the issue has been given to the rcmp and not saying anything else is irresponsible considering the person in question as a minister of the state.  she was responsible for 52% of the canadian population. so, in this case it seems like they are hiding behind the rcmp and this may take months to finally dispel the truth. wouldn’t it be easier and painless for the government to just expose it and get over with it quickly?

the afghan detainee issue is another example where the government has not been transparent enough.  there is no public enquiry because the government believes it may hinder on national security and crap like that.  so they prolong this issue by not allowing the committee to see undoctored documents.  some say that the blacked out parts have nothing to do with national security but to cover up an embarrassment. now the government has given iacobucci the job to determine whether the documents the opposition are asking for pose a threat to national security.  however, iacobucci will only answer to the pmo and not the house of commons.  that means even if iacobucci says the documents are fine and pose no threat to national security…no one would know except for the government and they could always spin another story on that.  so does this make this government accountable to canadians? are they making government transparent to those who seek it? do they think we are that stupid? well, apparently they do.

so, in conclusion, i once could have cared less about guergis…then i was angered by her actions and now i just pity her and hope her the best. i guess now she knows how prince islanders feel…this is how living in a ‘hell-hole’ feels like…she should move there! but if you really think about it…with harper ruling canada with an iron fist…we are kinda living in a hell-hole as well…what a shame…ALL HAIL HARPER AND HIS HAIR!

sense of entitlement…

its been a while since i’ve written on this blog, but its been crazy at work and home.  i’ve been bothered by some rumours at work and i just want to release my anger here.  there have been rumours that someone in particular at work is claSnapshot_20100203_18iming their medical expenses.  now, as a small company, we don’t actually cover medicals…even my dad doesn’t claim.  however, this particular individual, knowing very well that we do not cover medical expenses, went to china to claim his med bill.  this is very cunning of him since he is an employee in hong kong and this person went to china to claim it…not knowing we in hong kong would find out.  he was able to claim it because for some reason my father saw fit to grant him this.  supposedly no one knows about this…well…actually most people know now. so, you might now understand where my anger comes in.  after so many years, i’ve never claimed my doctor notes and since this person is new to the company…why does he have the right to claim them? in addition, he is always sick and he has actually transmitted his diseases to the rest of us in the office.  so i personally think since he’s the one that gave us our colds, we should also be able to claim as well.  but i think the main thing is that he didn’t claim it in hong kong, but in china…behind our backs.  i’m not surprised that he did that though…this person claims everything! for example, we had a convention in january and we all went down there including some mainlanders from our factory.  now in the middle of it, one of the mainlanders and him decided to go cell phone shopping.  i thought…fine…whatever…however, right when we got back from the convention…he sat down and took out the claims form and i couldn’t help but noticed he claimed his little trip to mongkok (where he helped the mainlander by his cell).  personally, i thought that was tasteless and i cringed…hard. it was hid decision to go to mongkok on company time. i am disappointed and quite frankly disgusted by his actions. this past weekend, he has boasted about getting a physical because his mother told him to…mama’s boy…clearly.  so, i expect he will claim that too…shame.  i will have a discussion with my father…in person about this…seriously, this person should follow our policies…medical bills don’t cost that much…his was like $190…this person is just cheap if you ask me…lol.

ps…he makes more than me…and my other coworker…so that is just the salt on the wound. be a man and stop being a cheap ass!

pps…that is a pic of me trying to look fierce and angry…lol…i shall try another pose next time…lol

popular-ity of glee!

so i was talking to my friend anita the other day and the show glee came up.  i had to admit that i didn’t watch it because i only briefly heard about it on some sites i visit but i wasn’t really interested.  but anita insisted i check it out and so i did.  i wasn’t all that impressed with the pilot episode…it was good but not great but i still continued to watch it and it wasnglee-294x300’t until the third episode that i finally saw the brilliance of the show.  each show since then seemed to be better and better.  now you might be wondering what happened in that third episode to change my mind.  well…it was mercedes’ rendition of ‘bust your windows’ that made me change my mind.  it was amazing! i tuned out of the acafella thing but mercedes saved that show. then the rest of the episodes just got better…especially the fourth episode…lol…footballers dancing to ‘single ladies’ is brilliant and then the fifth episode with kristin chenoweth as a washed up/alcoholic…and then a great performance of ‘defying gravity.’  i also had anotPop-ularher reason why i continued to watch…it was because this show was produced by ryan murphy.  this guy produced one of my all time favourite shows….popular! ok…don’t hate..i liked that show because it was hilarious and mary cherry was in it…if you don’t know what i’m talking about then you should youtube mary cherry and you will know the brilliance of murphy.  i also noticed parallels between both shows…basically the popular/unpopular thing, teen issues, blondes/brunettes…lol. i can’t wait until april! later days!

what is newsworthy??

i like to watch and read news and at the bottom of each article there are usually posted comments by its readers.  i am sometimes repulsed by some of the comments because they are so ignorant.  i really hate it when some readers post whether or not something is actually news.  i mean by definition, news is the communication of information of current events.  so to say something isn’t news is just not true.  then there are some who say that the news item is not relevant.  well, one news item may not be relevant to you, but it may be to someone else. so that is just pure ignorance…lol.  i’m not saying that there aren’t stupid news items but it is still news and we can’t repute that no matter how ‘irrelevant’ it may be to you. i did notice that most of those comments are posted by bigots..and how do i know that? well…they usually post comments like ‘they need to get jobs’ or some other racist slurs.  it is shameful that canada prides itself as a tolerant state but there are still some people out there who are just callow…unaware of the world around them. sad…

cny…yes, it is that time of year again…

so it is time for another lunar new year and that means my dad has come down.  now, i rarely see my dad and i should be happy to see him but it can be so tiring for me.  i usually do what he tells me cause i’m one of those loser sons.  don’t ask me why but i just do whatever he says. there are a few reasons why i am not going to enjoy this holiday season. first, the rest of my co-workers are off from feb. 10-22.  that is almost two weeks of holidays and i thought those would be my days off too. DSC_0034 however, that is not the case because my dad called and told me that i only have the red days off and that means i technically only get 2 days off because two of those red days are saturday and sunday. i have to work the rest of the days.  he said i don’t have to stay for the whole day but the fact that i have to go to work is just wrong. thankfully no one calls or most other people take the rest of the week off so i shouldn’t have to do much. oh well…i can catch up on my shows!

secondly, my dad likes to cook (he used to be a chef…god knows how he became a chef cause his cooking is only ok…room for perfection).  that only means one thing…my kitchen is ruined! i have no idea how my dad does it but the kitchen always looks like a battle zone after he is finished with it and it is no different from tonight.  he cooked up a storm and i am left with the job to clean up.  dinner was only subpar too…so it wasn’t worth it! and to add salt to the wound…he smoked after i cleaned and now there are ashes on the floor…i had to mop again…damn him! i find no joy in the holidays anymore…but i will make him stay new years eve…he will pay! i will get back at him…the loser will pay! thank goodness i’m not vindictive! lol…later days!

top gear…my top choice!

i think one of the most surprising things about me is that i love watching a show called top gear.  whenever i tell someone i watch it religiously they always give me a weird look and ask me why.  i wish i could tell them why i like it because i could really care less about cars; and indeed, i can’t tell you anything about cars or what horsepower is or what that switch on the left hand side of your steetop-gear-hosts1ring wheel does. however, ever since i’ve been living in hong kong, my tastes have changed.  i first discovered this show on bbc entertainment and i was quickly encapsulated in the how they shoot/film the cars and their investigative stories, if you can call them that.  i particularly love their specials where they go somewhere remote and complete tasks in their chosen cars.  they’ve been to the vietnam, africa, boliva, hillbilly land and even the arctic. it is in these specials that you discover how crass, racist and ignorant they are.  no matter how much you may disagree with them you can’t help but keep watching. i mean where can you watch cars play soccer? a ford focus driving in a mall? or seeing people make amphibious cars? or have races against a bullet-train, airplane, boat…oh my!  so as you can see, this is a far cry from my obsession with martha stewart and homemaking, but even martha has her quarks…she likes insider trading so i can like top gear (i know that was a weird comparison). strangely i thought my dad would like this show cause it is a pretty manly show, but he could care less about it.  he actually changed the channel on me! so i have to find some other thing in common with him to bond over. i’m trying to put off drinking beer as the last resort! wait, i bet most guys watch this show while drinking beer…wow. i drink a g&t…i really can’t stand the taste of beer. oh well…a g&t is a very british drink so there you have it! later days!

soudas my ass

so i often watch canadian news here in hong kong on the web and i find it so much more interesting now.  there shouldn’t be any surprise since have we have a minority government.  the main problem i have with this government, other than the fact that it is a conservative government, is that the prime minister is never there.  i mean how often to you actually see him in parliament or in public?  sure, he has to travel a lot but still.  so in place of him, he has dimitri soudas.  this guy isparliamentofcanada something else! he is the official spokesman of the PMO and he can speak…but coherently?  no.  the guy keeps repeating himself and doesn’t answer the question.  has anyone seen him in an interview (ie. anything about the prorogation or the environment)?  he looks like jessica simpson reading her lines in her last movie.  its like pulling teeth and it is painful to watch because you never get any coherent answers. okay i can understand politicians dodging questions by not answering them but some of them actually do a good job of it…not this guy.  harper’s not any better but at least harper distracts you with his roadkill/toupe like hair…i really hope it is a toupe cause it isn’t human! well, the upside is that it appears harper’s hair has more personality than him…so i guess he should keep that thing. soudas barely has any hair to distract you with so he needs to improve on this or just move along…and get hair implants or shave a bit of harper’s hair and make his own toupe! later days!

妻子的誘惑…cruel temptations

i have been ‘chasing’ this drama for over a month now, and i am now hooked.  the beginning was very slow and it dragged…liked dragged.  however, i continued to watch this drama because i knew the premise and it intrigued me.  the premise sounds familiar but i just wanted to see how it played out.  well, the wait was well worth it because revenge is sweet! the28_8_66250_172_230_20090302180557 storyline is quite complicated but it is basically about a married couple who consists of a humble wife and a womanizing husband with a family who takes advantage of the wife.  well,  the husband had something going on between himself and the wife’s best friend five years ago and a child was born as a result of the affair.  the mistress returns to steal the husband away and drives the wife away…and eventually into the ocean (dragged by the husband) while pregnant.  now, everyone thinks she’s dead…but she was rescued by this other guy who actually knows the husband at work (but he didn’t know she was the wife of his boss). and then the fun began cause she starts to plot his downfall…actually both the mistress and the adulterer.  i’m only half way into this drama but it can only get better.  wow…do not piss off a woman..cause you will pay! but if i were you i wouldn’t start watching the drama until the 25th episode cause the first part is about how the in-laws treat their daughter-in-law…well i am pretty sure you can all guess how that turned out. later days!

my new computer…don’t hate

i just wanted to tell you all that i got a new computer.  i had a very hard time tryingTS-default_1920x1080 to find or even pick a new computer cause there were so many to choose from.  however, i really only had a few choices cause i wanted one with the touch screen ability.  that only left me with two choices…sony or hp. i know! the choice seems obvious…or is it? my choice may surprise a lot of people since sony seems to be the right choice and i thought so too.  however, i eventually chose hp because of one simple reason.  this was sony’s first touch screen all-in-one computer, whereas hp has had four generations in this field.  the applications seemed to be more user friendly and there was something about how the sony computer looked.  there was something weird about it…it was very angular and the hp touchsmart 600 had a more appealing look to it.  plus the keyboard felt more comfortable for me.  so in the end i painstakingly chose the hp.  so far i’m not regretting it but for some reason i think i will in a few months…lol.  okay, now i am ready for all the backlash and hate mail…bring it on!

welcome to my blog!

I've never really blogged before and it does seem a bit intimidating. The purpose of this blog is to let my thoughts flow and give myself an outlet. Plus, everyone seems to be doing it...so why not? Okay now I'm just lost for words...ugh...lol. Actually something happened today which pissed me off. Living in Hong Kong has its advantages and unfortunately it also has its disadvantages such as the people. After living here for more than four years, I have come to notice that people here are quite inconsiderate. I've been able to observe the everyday people and it would appear that people here either walk really slow or really fast. I will admit that I am someone who walks fast and will cut people off, but mainly those who walk slow.

I've noticed that those who walk slow are either females, females who walk with other females or females walking with their boyfriends/husbands. Why do they walk so slow? I keep asking myself that question every time i am stuck behind someone. I mean i try to come up with a reasonable explanation to why they take forever putting one foot in front of another. When i look at them, they aren't fat, old or disabled so they don't have an excuse. I mean I can forgive those who do have those dispositions but not if they are able and young.

The trend tends to be younger females who walk slow...so maybe they cut physical education from schools? No, but really, people need to walk faster or at least walk at a humanly pace. I've seen the elderly walk faster than the younger generation! So that should be a good indicator that you're walking slow if you are being out-walked by a granny.

In addition, I blame those slow walkers for my impatience and my tendencies to walk fast. Now that I think of it, the problem maybe geographical because I can tell you that it isn't like that when you are at Causeway Bay or Central where people tend to walk faster. Maybe people in the suburbs walk slow and think slow since they can't be considerate of others who are in a hurry (please not even in a hurry but those who would like to get to their destinations on time). So in conclusion, if you are not old or disabled PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE AND WALK AT A GOOD DECENT PACE!
